It’s hot, the humidity is stifling, and yet my kid is still asking me to go outside with her. And while walking through local parks IS on our summer bucket list, some days the call of the A/C is just too strong. Enter the answer to my non-sweaty, entertaining-my-kiddo dreams: Meeple’s Brew! I was beyond excited to find this gem of a coffeehouse in Morrisville. But wait, there’s more! Meeple’s Brew isn’t just a coffeehouse, it’s a boardgame cafe --- the first in the area. Last week I took my daughter for some game playing and yummy treats, and she hasn’t stopped talking about the place since!
When you enter Meeple’s Brew, the first thing that will catch your eye is the huge game wall! They have over 250 board games for all ages and interests. Sydney (who’s 6, almost 7) took her time looking over the children’s games, before settling on Banana Blast. Once we had our game, we went to the counter to order something to munch on while we played. I was pleasantly surprised to find a pretty full menu of breakfast items (available all day), sandwiches, smoothies, milkshakes, desserts, and of course, coffee drinks. There’s plenty of spaced-out seating inside (and tables outside under an awning) to relax and play. When we finished playing with Banana Blast, we put the game on the “return” table, where it will be quarantined and disinfected before returning to the game shelf. Sydney was so into the games, I purchased a monthly library pass, so we can borrow games and play for free in the cafe.
Meeple’s Brew has so many ways to enjoy their games! You can purchase a “library pass” for just that visit, and play whatever games are currently in the cafe. They also offer lunch specials that include a sandwich and a drink, and also cover your pass to play for the day. Games can also be rented out for a fee, or purchase a monthly pass and you can play in the cafe and borrow your favorites for home too! Meeple’s Brew is currently open 7 days a week; check their website for more information and any updates (meeplesbrew.com). They also have a super convenient app (just search “Meeple’s Brew”) where you can view available games, watch how-to-play videos, and keep track of any library pass purchases. When you visit, don’t forget to tell them you’re a Macaroni Kid subscriber for an exclusive deal!
